I just read this interesting article about the United Van Lines 46th Annual National Movers Study focused on where and why Americans moved in 2022. You can access the full article here, but below are some Oregon specific highlights:

  • Oregon was the #2 most “moved to” state in 2022, second to Vermont
  • The top reason people moved to Oregon was for employment opportunities
  • The top reason people moved away from Oregon was to be closer to family
  • The top age group moving to Oregon was <18 to 34 (Gen Z & Millennials)
  • The top age group moving out of Oregon is 65+ (Boomers)

Oregon brought in 67% inbound moves in 2022! Total “outbound” moves: 32.9%

United Van Lines lists the biggest pros to living in Oregon as:

  • No general sales tax
  • Outdoors / scenery
  • Healthy lifestyle
  • Portland is the nation’s most bike-friendly city
  • Fairly low crime rate compared to other states
